Music In Motion is collaboration on a series of levels.

Musicians who started as strangers were paired together, creating a story together through their shared language of music.

Then, these musical acts were matched with dancers, who day of collaborated and improvised the performance as the music was created. Art coming together in their rawest forms, connection created through emotions only art can create.

Collaboration with our partner SAGE and Women in Music - organizations focused on spotlighting the stories of women and their art.

Creating The Experience

Organizing 22 performers across musical and dance disciplines is no easy task. We paired performers who at first glance wouldn’t work together. Hip Hop alongside country music, tap with a heavy drum. That was the beauty of it, and crafting a narrative that overlapped genres and disciplines allowed for unique moments.

A set list was built out that balanced fast and slow, angry and heartfelt, to bring audiences is in. Starting with hit pop singles to bring in initial crowd, letting them sit with the ballads but not overwhelmed as am upbeat bass comes in. It was a symphony in itself, finding the balance of the drastically different acts.

The challenge of it being the first event for most team members was of knowing what was necessary. Becoming a pro in backline and needs for musical instruments, it was learning on our feet.

Negotiating with new vendors for price reductions and to bring the stage design to life. Reaching out to organization for sponsorship opportunities, and hosting those organizations at the event through themed activities.

The theme of nightlife followed through the event, from the bright graphics to the rave Kandi bracelet making activities offered. All these elements allowed for the artist’s vision to come to life.
